Crossed wires and the longest post ever!
Annatar
Lem, thank God there is more than just 2 of us here. Farlas and meself were starting to go stir crazy on our own.
Farlas, I think there has been a misunderstanding of what we, I, do in relation to communication with Our Lady and the Saints. As to members in Heaven not hearing us because thay are dead... well to be picky, they are not. They have life in Jesus, as he promised they would, else they wouldnt be in Heaven. Saints, Angels and Our lady do NOT answer prayers, they have no power as such to do so. To infer such would open the blasphemy of Gods/goddesses/demi-gods, which needless to say is a no-no. Discussions on God and religion like we are having in truth gives praise to God. Praise to God is prayer.
I really cant see how the saints etc can be distracting. To my heart it makes no change to my reverence and Worship of God.
Perhaps what is different between you and I is that to me the heavenly congregation are as alive as you and me, just in a different place. These rags we wear, these bodies are as nothing. The Soul is all.
Luke 16:19-31 tells the story of a rich man who pleads from Hell to God to allow for a warning to be sent to his brothers to warn them of their wickedness... This implys thoses who shrug off the mortal coil still see what happens here on Earth, even when in Hell. (there was nothing to say the former rich man was taking a guess that his brothers hadnt repented yet).
You dont remember Samuel? One of the greatest Prophets?... King Saul got the Witch of Endor to raise his spirit. Not a clever thing to do. DOH!
When Catholics communicate with the saints, they are not asking them to fix a problem, they are asking them to pray with them to God, and asking Him to fix the problem, sota speak. Jesus advised us to pray together for an intention. If the group praying to God happens to span both Heaven and Earth, no worries, all the more praise to God.
As Jesus told in the aforemention story of the rich man, the "dead" are aware of the living, and God does hear the Prayers of the "dead", even the damned in Hell.
On the subject of Mary, I never said she was perfect, I said she was as perfect as a human could ever hope to be. This was only able to happen through the grace of God. She was/is human, and as such shortsighted. Being shortsighted is no sin. Just because she may not have understood all of God's plan etc does not make her a sinner. It just makes her human.
At Cana Jesus DID alter his plan at her intercession. "My hour has not yet come." Yet still he responded to Mary's pray on the happy couple's behalf, and turned the water to wine.
Farlas you said "Ah, but a common council of churches does not allow for the Holy Spirit to move"
I hate to say this but, do I detect a slight restriction being placed on the Holy Spirt? That there are somethings He cannot do?
A common council would see what we could work together on and what we could not. More for better understanding of each others views than anything else. No slaving away to hammer out deals which would leave all sides believing that their beliefs had in some ways been compromised.
(If nothing else you will take from these Posts an understanding that no true Catholic Worships any being other that God. And our talking with the Saints is to get more voices asking for a single intention, as Jesus advised us to do {the whole; when three or more ask for something....})
In regards to Islam... They have belief in God. The same God we Worship (albeit not the Blessed Trinity). Admittedly everything else surrounding that central belief is... trying to find words so as not to offend anyone... from a Christian point of view, extremely lacking. Yet I feel encouraged, so many people acknowledging God. Even if our beliefs can be flawed in some extent.
I see all Christian Churches as Brothers/Sisters, the Jewish faith (Which I'd argue we are still part of) is out half-brother/sister and Islam is our cousin.
A nice little family. If a little violent at times.
Erm... what else....
The UN is a positive in the world, in no way is it perfect but it would be a sorryier world without it.
Tell your brother, no I'm not a leprechaun, there are no leprechauns in Ireland, but I am one of the Sidhe. leprechaun's are an English invention. Sidhe, ahh they be a magic folk, as tall as ordinary mortals but with powers... dangerous, terrible and wonderful powers. We were here before the Celts, we let them live here but we never gave Ireland up. We live in the Hills, thorn bushes and the lakes and rivers.
The Morrigan, Manannan McLir, Lugh of the long hand, Nuada silverhand....
Cant really say what the wee lads ore here think about Americans.
Grown up lads have mixed views, as no doubt you could guess. ArrGGhhhh we aint starting THAT discussion.
Anyways I like the most o yas that's the main thing ;)
When does time end? Time is probably an illusion, no matter how persistent (Einstein said something like that). Anyways lets say it is real. Time is part of the Physical universe, when you die, there is no time. Now this is a mind bender when you think about it. What happens after you die? In one way, nothing and yet in another everything. Without time nothing can happen because happening implys time. God when asked what his name is replied "I AM", this is a "meaning heavy" reply. "I AM" says, God is exactly the same, today, yesturday, a million years ago, a billion years in the future. He is constant. But more than that. God sees all of Time at the one "time". He is in the past, the present and the future all at the same time - hence God's use of the present tense - "I AM". God is not a passenger like us on the Timestream. He, Heaven etc exist outside time, looking in sota speak. Now to make it more fun. There is no set single future. There is an infinite number of them, God sees them all in the same continuous instant. You see, if there was only one single future then that would make fate real. Fate negates Free Choice, Negation of Free Choice, negates responsibility, both for good and evil actions. A single future allows for no deviation from what happens. You will do what is planned whether it is good or bad. People would then become no better than characters in a book, with the Author responsible for the actions they take, because it was He that wrote it, not they.
Does the Bible endure past death/end of time? Yes it does - whatever you bind on Earth conside it bound in heaven........
DEAR GOD!! and the award for the longest post ever goes to............
