Food, War and a bunch o Nazis
Annatar
Paczki's are eaten on the tuesday before Ash Wednesday? Hmmmmm we eat Pancakes over here on Shrove Tuesday AKA Pancake Tuesday. Flour, Eggs, Suger.... fried, served traditionally with lemon juice and a sprinkling of suger.
Lilly, howdy doo dee! yeah conversation swings wildly about, most about things people care deeply for. These are best for good indepth stuff, yet suprisingly little bloodshed. (Farlas and meself understand one another - we are just searching for the truth, and recognise each other right to believe slightly differently. Still... makes for a good natter)
Farlas, in response to some issues you mentioned before.
The whole issue of the Eucharist... personnally I truely believe Christ is Present in it. How exactly I do not know. Whether there is any bread left there or not is not important, considering a person is actually and truely receiving Christ. Most of the evidence supporting this is scattered through the Gospels - not only the Last Supper. One that springs to mind, although this is no way verbatim, is the parallels with Mana. Jesus said this bread from Heaven saved their ancestors mortal life, but he would give them bread that would give them eternal life. This and others point to the fact something really special is going on with the bread and wine at the Last Supper. If such is the case we can take Jesus at his word when he said "this is my body..."
Needless to say I'm not saying it becomes actual flesh, cannabalism is not what happens. To my mind God is like a fire, bright and strong. Illuminating the darkness. The Host is a flame from God, warming the soul, showing up the dark corners, giving strength.
"Also, God said if a man kills a man he should die. But, this is the governments business, not man's, to decide whether a man dies or lives for murder."
It could be that alot of crimes DESERVE death but we cannot give it. Unless we can find someone free from sin to act as executioner. Mary Magdelene was condemned and was going to die by the authorities (or at least they had authority gained from scripture) but Jesus stopped them.
Farlas, you seem to separate Man and Government... why? The government is "... of the people, by the people, for the people" Government is the people. The people's will made manifest. Otherwise it is a dictatorship.
All this is to say, if we support the law of the land that executes criminals, it is us that executes them. We cannot cover/blurr our responsibility for the actions of the Governments we support.
The National Socialist Government of Germany in the early half of the last century was legitimately voted in. Does having a legitimately elected officials lessen the resposibility on the ordinary German citizens who voted them in? Was the genocides only the responsibilty of the Nazi Government?
No.
We the people, We Are the Government.
Did Hitler ever kill anyone in WWII? Most probably not, but he was responsible for millions of deaths. In the same way, supporters of any government, who support their methods are responsible for those actions, as all power is derived from them. The Government is the proxy for what is the majority will. I does not remove the responsibility that a supporting citizen must take.
As for War (apart from certain wars in the Bible) there has never been any Just and Right wars in history. Always power and self interest intrude. Besides is not Christ's way better? Turn the other cheek? Not just 7 but 77 times...
Nations should forgive each other, especially their enemies. Course this will never happen. Showing love to all, should take precedence over all... life of an individual, life of a nation.
Oh well. Everett has the right of it... What LOTRs topics can we resurrect?
One tiny question, not judging or anything, but is it true that Mr Bush in a State of the Union address, said WWII started at Pearl Harbour?
I only heard this third hand so I'm not about to wag fingers and give out, as it could be a flat lie.
Any truth in it?
Anywho hope ye are all well, see yas later :) Ash Nazg...
