Kitties on my shoulder
Farlas
Well, my cat isn't on my shoulder, she's under my arm, and there is only one... but that's beside the point! Moving on!
*reaches for Bible* Like I said Everett, I think it is merely reminding us that the animals are made of the earth just like us and that the difference is that God breathed into Adam life, where as He just handed it to the animals.
Just to state, I am NOT one of those KJV nuts that thinks all other translations are evil. I just think KJV is the most accurate. And that's the translation my church uses, so that is the one I have.
(That and I just love all the Thee's, ye's, thou's, and henceforths.)
Hmm... not that God is not God... more like God is not as much God. Okay, if God wanted to use evolution, then He could. I just don't believe He did though. Why would He have to? Why couldn't He have simply spoken it all into creation?
To me, evolution makes absolutely no sense. It was a theory made up by a man that used junk science. I refuse to combine something like that with God.
"From what I gather of your understanding of the theological implications of the potential truth of evolution, you reject evolution because to accpet it would be to look into the abyss: into chaos and nothingness, into oblivion. The fear to do so is understandable, but it must be done because in facing the abyss it is possible to move from the cowardice of superstition to the courage of faith"
No. I am not afriad of the Abyss ere our world began. It was a dark void with some water in it. I do not fear that. God was there. What is to fear? It was not chaos, for God was in control. It is by faith I believe creation. Did not the author of Hebrews say such?
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen are not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:1-3.
I think that should give us a clue to something.
"Creation" is not my refuge. God is my refuge. I do not fear the dark before time dawned. I do not fear the abyss, the void, for God was there. There is no need.
I do not fear the abyss. I am saying what I think would be IF evolution was true. Or even Theistic Evolution.
Ever wonder why the majority of ancient civilizations believed that some deity created the world and it is only "modern man" that doubts this? Just a question.
Well, I can kinda see where you get that. I disagree, but I see where you are coming from. But wouldn't the "supreme pastor" be pastor of all? He's not mine. I assure you, Pope Benedict is not my pastor. Neither was John Paul the Second.
Ah! Well. It almost doesn't matter to me. I'm not Catholic. I take my doctrine soley from the Bible.
Annatar, so do I. This is a bad thing. Two stubborn headed debaters stuck on a Biblical topic... *shakes head* I'm having PotC flashbacks.
Oooh! Okay. I still disagree with you about praying to saints and all that, but I can kinda see where you differentiate between the two. Yes, I pretty much have been taught the other my whole life. A However, is it possible that it varies with in Catholisicm? Or has through out the ages?
You asked for it... Just remember that. Well *clears throat* The way I see it, if I have been told I was made in the image of God my whole life, then suddenly was told I was chanced into the image of God, I wouldn't feel as valuable. It would almost be as if your parents said to you, "Well, we really didn't want to have a son. Ever. We actually wanted a girl, but then we got you and figured you were as good as it was gonna get, so we kept you." I mean, it sounds a little ridiculous, but that's pretty much how it sounds to me. If you wanted to say, "Well He planned on us forming by chance." then why in the world didn't He just form us? Wouldn't it have been easier?
Okay, Annatar, if God knows what will happen when He rolls the dice, why doesn't he skip a step and just have it happen? It is adding an unnecessary paragraph in the story of the universe.
What is special about the human "animal", beisdes the soul, is the very fact we were made in His image.
Are you saying humans were not evolved from monkeys or something? That we were made independently and placed on an evolved earth? I don't quite understand what you mean.
Where did free will come in? Is that with your whole soul outside of evolution theory? But if the soul is outside evolution, and humans were not evolved... then... ???
What's so hard about believing "God said, let there be _______" and there it was?
Okay, back to death row: Genises 9:6 - Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.
The pastor used it in Sunday School. Hehehe!
Opalys: My precioussss is lossssst! We lossst it we did! In the river precioussss! We lost it in the river! The loud water took it off my fingersss preciousssss!
Okay, I didn't lose any rings, but who can resist such an opportunity?
I am all for James Earl Jones as Smaug, Annatar! He would be awesome.
As for Thorin and Bard... Well, I think John Rhys-Davies should play his father Gloin, but for Thorin... any actor with an older voice. Almost crusty... if you get my drift. Aged. As for Bard... hmmm... I wouldn't mind seeing Jim Caviesel playing him. I think he would do a good job. And, he fits the description relatively well. My real wonder is who should play Thranduil. Now that Legolas has been established as Orlando Bloom, (for the movies at any rate) they shoudl find someone with at least similar facial charcteristics. As for Beorn... Someone with a gruff voice... Kiefer Sutherland gruff edge with a deeper quality.
Only in Mirkwood should the Necromancer fear underlie. I think that sentence is a gramatical nightmare. Anyway...
I feel I must thank you all for being thoughtful people. I recently had a debate with an airheaded girl. You can't win against someone with no argument. They lost before they began, but of course they don't think so. Oh how the GPA's are decieving!
