Fine with me! :o)
Farlas
I'm happy to let this drop. For now.
Annatar, all I ask is that you do not poach Legolas' leg. Either one for that matter. Take some whining, annoying elf from some poorly written fanfic. :o)
Question Annater: If God can control evolution, could He not control chance as well? Even if it was free will? And would it then cease to be chance?
Opalys: I agree, that the Bible isn't a record of natural history, at least exclusively, but when God has something to do with it, it is. See, here's where I am coming from. If I trust God to get me into Heaven, and I accept the Bible as His word, why shouldn't I believe Him when He says He made it in 6 literal days?
My forgiveness you have. And I ask your forgivness for anything offensive I may have said. Don't worry though, no offense was taken on my part.
Opalys: Your caveman sounds like a couple uncles of mine... thick bones, and REALLY hairy. LOL! I digress...
This is one of those times I REALLY REALLY wish I had kept my chapel notes handy. Alas and a lack. As it is though, I shall do my best to explain to you why, I at least, believe the Bible to be true and accurate.
One reason why I believe the Bible is God's word when I read it is this: It doesn't contradict itself. It took several hundered years to get it all written, and not one sentence contradicts another. Take the four gospels, for instance. They were written by four completely different men. One was a former tax collector, one was a teenager when Christ died, one was a doctor, and one was a fisherman. It was written over a period of sixty years with in the death of Christ, and on four opposite ends of the known world. They had no way to tell the other what they were writing, some were dead by the time the other book was written, and they were written with out knowledge of their existance to the others. Yet, all four gospels give an account of Jesus' ministry and death, and all four coincide. Different points of view perahps, but they all coincide.
That, to me, is proof enough of divine inspiration. You can hardly get four people to agree on what they saw in a car crash, let alone get so many to write four completely seperate people at different times and places to write the same thing.
In addition: All the prophecy of Jesus Christ was written four hundered years or better before His actual birth, and all of it came true. The prophets could not have known save by divine inspiration. Also, if you look at the end times prophecies and what is occuring now, it is frightening how closely the two coincide. Reading end time prophecies is like reading the news right now. That prophecy was written two thousand years ago or more. How could it be so accurate save by divine inspiration?
As well, the Bible lines up with ancient history and gives accurate accounts of various babylonian, persian, etc. kings that historians have accounts of in other scrolls. It coincides perfectly with human history, and it was written as it happened.
Those are just a few of the reasons off the top of my head that I believe the Bible to be true. And I am more than happy to answer it and in more detail if you so wish.
