As a future nuclear engineer...
Farlas
You know, one of those weird little placement test things told me I should be a nuclear engineer... I barely passed high school chemistry. This being said, I only understood half of what you said in that bottom paragraph, but I always understand more the more I read something so...*rereads everett's post*
Ah! I see, Opalys. Frankly, I am inclined to agree with you on religion. Religion with out God is not much more than a club with a cross. I fear many "christians" are practicing a ritual to appease someone instead of following the God they claim to believe in.
I sort of believe the opposite of you. You see God in nature, I see nature in God. Everything I see, I see as reflection of God's greatness.
I see your "Thou shalt not do this and that" rather opposite of you too. I do not see it as a prison or a cage, but rather as a wall around a city. Designed to keep the enemy out, not the inhabitants with in.
I think we misunderstood each other Annatar. It was because we sinned that God cursed us. We brought it upon ourselves. It's like the reason I have to wear a uniform skirt to school- older girls couldn't manage to wear their skirts at their waste and below their knee at the same time, so we got a uniform skirt. I was by no means guilty of the offense, but one or two girls ruined it for the lot of us. We were told to be careful, we were told not to sag them low or wear them short, yet we did, and now girls that were not even there have to suffer. Same with Adam and Eve. Eve ate the fruit, handed it to Adam who then took a bite. They were told any tree but that tree. They ate from that tree. Thus, we are a cursed race. God was heartbroken over the entire affair, hence the death and resurrection of Jesus. If he had been a murderous, blood lusting, pagean God, then He would have left Jesus in heaven.
It's not that it was "You fell! MWAHAHAHA! I get to curse you!". It was, "You are now fallen and I cannot allow an imperfect creature into my perfect heaven. Therefore, I am going to set up a way you can get into heaven. I really really want you there! Really. So here's what you do..."
So... successful changes only? Okay... so there were billions of years of successful changes for birds? And isn't a billion years a long time? I mean, a billion years to change one thing would be... overkill. Or were the changes very minute?
Wouldn't it just be easier to say, "And God said..."?
Genesis 1: 20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good."
See, right there. Everything reproduced after it's own kind. Birds didn't have frogs, whales didn't have cows, or anything like that. It says they multplied after his kind. And see, it also says right there in black and white, "and the evening and the morning were the _____ day." Not, "and the evening and the morning were the five billionth year." Yes, I know that a day is as a thousand years to the Lord, but that's to Him. To us, the day begins and ends around midnight. To ancient Hebrews it began at sunset and ended the following sunset. It doesn't leave much room there for billions of years. If He had meant to say billions, or wanted to say billions, or should have said billions, He would have. As it stands... He didn't. It wasn't. Period. I think God knows that Moses would have understood billions as well as we do.
Everett. I still don't quite understand all you are saying at that last paragrpah. I'm still saying God made it. As for that vision sun, Mary thing... Well, I think all prophesying like that and such visions ended after John wrote Revelation. I have no idea what they saw, or what was there, or anything.
Well, it is late, and I have spoken long enough for now.
