'World Citizen'
Annatar

"Just look at what's going on in Europe right now, both culturally and demographically." -A recipe for disaster?!?
Erm, hallo! I live in that Europe, in probably the most open country in the world in regards to allowing foreign nationalities to come work and live their lives. Such an influx is only helping this country - social, culturaly and economically. Ireland has never had it so good, and alot of praise for this should be heaped on the EEC-EC-EU.
The greatest thing about Europe is its ability to resolve issues by talking, resolving problems that also respect all member countries cultures. Europe knows there is strength in diversity. Ireland has lost none of its Culture by joining the EEC-EC-EU. Rather it has been strengthened.
Its frighting how many Non-Eu think that the EU is a country in its own right. It is not (and perhaps may never be).
"...look at what's going on in Europe ..." I dont think you have, because it does not reflect reality. Wanna know what happens in Europe? Ask a European.

There is a misconception in regards to culture, that it is a static thing handed down through the decades and centuries, unchanged from our forefathers. This is not so. Cultures evolves as cultures mix.
Perhaps there is also a misconception in what I am advocating. I do not advocate the dissolution of nation states, nor the blending of cultures and traditions into a single whole. All I advise is that the basic welfare of our fellow humans around the globe should take precedence over all other earthly concerns and allegiances. The term "World Citizen" was used because Farlas used it, and we ran with it. Perhaps it made people think world government etc... I wasnt using it as such.

Christian Arguement:
Is a person in Africa dying of hunger or war or disease NOT my neighbour? Am I, as a Christian, not duty bound by my God to love as He loves us?
How many examples do you want? The good Samaritan...
It is as simple as that and there is no getting around it. A command from God comes first before any earthly laws or customs. No distinction between the citizen of one nation and another.

I know I am a hypocrite, Jesus knows Im good at saying and not doing, but it still doesnt make what Im saying less true.
Besides, what Ive found is the more money you give the more money you get back. Truely strange.

Ideas, Cultures etc all do matter, but are they, all combined, worth he life of a single starving baby? Its either a yes or no.
I say this just to illustrate a point about priorities.

But anyways somehow Everett you seem to think the discussion until now was about forming a single monolythic political and cultural world entity. Sorry, thats not what we were talking about.

About the American Civil War, surely if a few states ceded from the Union, the Union would still exist albeit slightly smaller...
So would it be correct to say that the Constitution takes precedence over the will of the people (of at least a few States). The Constitution then surely becomes a manacle that binds the now unwilling States to the Union?
Ill be the first to acknowledge that I know nothing about the In's and Outs of the Constituation of the USA. Just healthy curiosity about our neighbours over the pond...
Farlas, did your Ma say anything about this? always best to ask the expert. Say "Hi" for me :)

Anywho See you all laters :) Ash Nazg...
