Ahh the Beast
Annatar

"I'm just going to say, the whole EU thing is a little suspicious to me... after all, so many of the countries on your side of the pond have been enemies for centuries, and suddenly you're all friends? It doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And, coincidentely enough, the whole thing seems to be setting the stage for the Anti-Christ and the new roman empire and all that stuff prophesied in the OT and Revelation... "

There is a misconception... least there seems to be over the pond that the EU is a virtual country at the moment. It is at best a collection of coutries agreeing to work together in certain areas, other areas being way outa bounds. To make it a country needs the overhelming majority of the people in the EU to see themselves as European, okay that was badly explained... If Europe has a national identity of its own it is the size of an acorn. Itll take many decades/centuries to grow up properly. If you think of the EU as a Club you'd be closer to describing what is actually there. Personnally I want alittle more integration, more direct citizen interaction with EU structures. WAAaaaayy greater transparency too would help. What binds the EU together? Respect. Peace and Prosperity for the citizens of the EU may be its aims but mutual respect is what keeps it together.
"...enemies for centuries, and suddenly you're all friends?" Who can argue that the hate between Ireland and Britain hasnt been one of the longest running ever?! Yet over the past decades, because of respect, it has been slowly eroded. Thats not to say there are not dips and lapses, but in the main relations are progressively improving. Only through working closer together can the hate of the past be left in the past. Europe over the Millenia has been drenched in blood. It has taken till now for God inspired peace and respect to elbow its way in.
WWII was what it took to shake sense into Europe. We cannot go back to the way it was, otherwise it could be the death of us all. Greater co-operation and intergration is the only way we understand each other, leave hate behind and become... whats the word?.... comrades!
;)

European countries are all friends now but still now and again somethings pop up. Hate dies hard.

Just because countries have warred with each other doesnt mean hate has to be passed down always. Its not as if the EU has sprung up over night either. It was... is tough work.

60+ years ago my uncle was killed in a Lancaster bomber (lad lied about his age and joined the RAF). A few years ago at school one of my best mates was a German who's uncle, grandfather... etc died in the war too. Just because our forefathers warred with each other does that mean we should hate each other? no.
To prove the point, Europe has never.... ever... been so peaceful.
Course its emmbaressing (amoungst other things) that we couldnt deal with the Kosovo, Serbia issue on our doorstep without US help. Still, early days. The new "Battle Groups" will help sort that nonsense out.

I had the sneakiest feeling the Anti-Christ thang might pop up. Seriously if he did try to take over the EU, he would go mad. Im not joking. He would have to talk and talk.... and talk. After which he would have to talk a hell of alot more.... and thats just to get agreement on the type of coffee they "might" use in reception rooms. Of course allowing for certain "opt out" coutries... And allowing for certain indigenous feelings and cultures.
Things happen slloooowwly over here. but it makes for good decisions in the long run.
Farlas, two books you just gotta buy.
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett
Wolf In Shadows by David Gemmell
Seriously!
The first is a good laugh, the second.. well not a laugh but pretty brilliant.
Jon Shannow - The Jerusalem Man! da da DAAA!!!

Ignoring Revelations was St John's way of telling off Churches of his time for becoming too pagan and following the world power of the time - Rome; It could be said that Revelations was warning that the Anti-Christ would reside in the World Power of that time. If the Anti-Christ came today, it wouldnt be the EU he would be living in... no way could it be described as The world power of the moment.
Good ol' US of A!
Afterall, what IS with the "All seeing" (Evil Eye) on the Dollar bill? and the New World Order bit. (easy to see I've been watching the Conspiracies bit)
The Thief will come in a way and a time least expected, so dont look to any of the usual suspects - US, EU, Russia, China... (shhush.... tween you n me I bet he's gonna come from....*looks right n left*... Switzerland. Yeah!! them and their Toblerone/chocolate and and and snow yeah!! never trust any one who makes chocolate in triangles. AHhhh just noticed... the three angles of the choclate in Toblerone are all 60 degs... 60,60,60!! remove the 0 and we get..... 666!!!! They ARE The Nation of the Anti-Christ!!!)

:D

Anyways, enough nonsense for now! See ye all later :)
Farlas... a pleasure as always talking to you!

Ash Nazg...

Ohh yeah the number of the Beast is actually 667...
