June 4, 2002 Jolly or Stern Hobbits? This is my first time submitting and please don't be offeneded if you find my opinion, well, offending. Yet, as I watched the Fellowship LOTR movie, I had a sense that in the begining these hobbits weren't "jolly farming folk" like they are described in the books. I understood that towards the end they should be a little sturneer and more I-know-what-I-have-to-do-but-I'm-afraid-to-do-it feeling. But in all the books, especially The Hobbit they explained that hobbits were jolly and loved to sing and be merry. I only got that feeling from Pippin and Merry, sort of, in the movie. I am not trying to criticize the movie at all, I just felt they needed a little more "bounce" in their step, If you know what I mean. Thanks for your time! |
