To the question about certain events that happen in ROTK being in TTT the answer is simple.

PJ is doing the sequencing of the screenplay differently, which is wise for the movie. Instead of doing things in large narratives about one group, it will be flashing between characters. This means that the separations between films wouldn't work well.

IE: were he to include Shelob in TTT, he would also have to go until after the sky is darkened in Minas Tirith because the darkness that preceded that battle was seen by Frodo and Sam before they reached Shelob. A logical place in my mind for the separation of TTT and ROTK is about when Frodo Leaves Ithilien. That would probrably be about when Pippin gives his sword to Denethor. I imagine that TTT is going to leave right before Minas Tirith gets going, and that the Battle of Pelenor Fields, and Shelob will be pretty close together in the sequence of events in ROTK.
