The Fantasy Genre
Lem

First, I just wanted to say that I disagree with Eariel completely about Christopher Lee's portrayel of Saruman. He was EXCELLENT (sorry about caps)!!!! (oh, and the exclamation marks) Not many people could've done that good of a job. I read somewhere a few months ago that Christopher Lee was a longtime fan of Tolkien who had read it every day for 20 years, I think it said, maybe more. He would quiz the costume makers on Middle Earth trivia and would stump the most hard-core fan of them all. Who better to play Saruman? Especially with his exemplary acting skills!

I also wanted to say that I agree completely with Wild Child about the fantasy movie thing. Most of my friends think that science fiction and most fantasy is just aliens coming on spaceships and it is so irritating! FotR and hopefully TTT and RotK will prove to people like this that fantasy can be much deeper than that. I mean, Tolkien created a whole world complete with sensible languages and all! How many other authors give that much history and put that much work into their writing? I'd say not many.

I also want to tell Fingolfin that he, too, is a Tolkien scholar. I, personally, know very few of these people.

Anyway, thanks for your time.
