Kalimac the Green. I think you have got it right about the Balrog and Gandalf being evenly matched. But in ROTK Gandalf tells Gimli that he himself is more powerful than anything they would meet unless they were brought before the Dark Lords throne, So if thats true I think Sauron could control the Balrog.
