Gandalf vs. Balrog
Loremaster

Gandalf wasnt matched with the balrog, Gandalf was preparing a spell to ward off the orcs. So the spell wasnt a really powerful one i think. When the balrog sensed the spell he was already prepared to break the door or spell (note Gandalf said that spells had to be proporly planned out and take time) and when Gandalf had to quikly end the spell it was incomplete and easy to break. Also I think the only reason the balrog had given Gandalf trouble was he was already weary. Chanses are Sauron who could definately beat Gandalf in power could just beam over and say "Bye Bye little Balrog" and zap him gone.
