Arwen's Necklace Again
Fingolfin

Danny is correct in saying that Arwen doesn't need any necklace to be immortal. As a matter of fact, the Predhil (Half-Elven i.e. Elrond, Elros, and Elrond's children) were given the choice of immortality after the fall of Sauron. As we all have read, Elrond goes over the sea with the Last Passing of the Ring Bearers, but Elladan, Elrohir, and Arwen do not. This means that Elrond's children have all chosen to be mortal. What I assumed is that this necklace is something of a symbol of Arwen's immortality, not directly tied into her physical being. By giving her necklace to Aragorn, this is a symbolic way of telling Aragorn that she will give up the immortality of the elves to live be mortal for him. To quote Arwen's line in the movie, "I would rather spend one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone."

The movie was slightly mixed up with the timing at which Arwen gives up her immortality, but this is an easily forgivable mistake because it made sense to the people who haven't read the books.
