July 10, 2002 Tolkien, a Christian Writer Now, I assume most of you readers out there are familiar with the author C.S. Lewis. Lewis led Tolkien to Christ. I think many of Tolkiens writing hve similarities to Christian beliefs. Tolkien was a strong Christian. He did not want to overwhelm readers with Christianity, but it shows through his ussages of faith. He somewhat represents Heaven with the underlying lands, and Hell with the land of Morder. If you study his works closely, you will see many things that correspond. I love reading his works and seeing his mastery of capturing his readers. I am a Christian, and I love seeing the dynamics of his works. Those that want to see the underlying connections to Christianity can, those who don't can enjoy wonderful fictional adventures. |
