This essay is in response to Deb's about the character ages.

I would have to agree that Elijah Wood and his other hobbit companions may ahve looked a little young for the movie. They are supposed to be in there 30s or so I do believe. One thing you might want to keep in mind is that in the books, Pippin and Merry are often mentioned to look like younger human children. So with that in mind, it might be assumed that hobbits look young in their 30s in comparison to a human that is 30, aside from the height.

Also, though Aragorn is suppose to be rather old, he has Numenorean, or however it is spelled, blood in him, which gives him roughly the life span of three times the normal man. So at the age of 50 he might look 30 or so. Just like he is portrayed in the movie.

I am no expert though. That is just my two cents.
