Girdle of Melian
Fingolfin

Hey just to change tunes a little in postings, I'd like to bring up one cool little thing i realised. We all know about how powerful the Girdle of Melian the Maia was, protecting Doriath and all the good old Sindar there. I just noticed that there is a parallel in LoTR. Tolkien stated that Galadriel was powerful enough to defend Lorien against any force less than Sauron himself. I assume that it is similar magic to that of the girdle of Melian. Tolkien also said that Melian's power could withstand any force less than Melkor. Therefore, the two are alike. They are different because Melian is a Maia who would be overwhelmed by a Vala, whereas Galadriel is only a Noldo (the most powerful Noldo at that time) and Sauron is a Maia. See the parallel?

cheers,

Fingolfin
