In Support of Fuzzy Elves
Dave M.

Just a quick note in support of Elven beards.
There is a painting by Tolkien himself, which has appeared in the (uk)1977 Tolkien calendar, & also in 'Pictures by JRR Tolkien', & 'JRR Tolkien, Artist & Illustrator' called 'Beleg finds Gwindor in Taur-nu-Fuin, depicting the scene from the Narn, which clearly shows the two Elves with beards.

Shame there's no picture by Tolkien of the Balrog, to clear up that debate - unless somebody knows of one?
