August 1, 2002 The Ring Elbereth, in one way it could be seen as stupidity, placing so much of his inherent strength into the ring but the whole point was to control 19 other rings/persons. This would have required a large amount of power to be invested into the One ring. So it was not stupidity but necessity, any less and the ring would not have worked to plan. I think it may have been Arina who asked what happened to Sauron's body after Isildur cut the ring off. The way I see it it is a bit like what happened to Saruman, "Rags of skin on a hideous skull" was all that was left of him. I expect that Sauron's form would have grumbled even further to dust (long term evil, a bit cliche). Which raises another question, was it the ring acting as an anchor or Sauron's own inate power that allowed him to take shape again after his body/form was destroyed? This happened twice, in the wrack of Numenor and at the end of the Last Alliance. Just a thought about Tom, old Tom, Tom Bombadillo (couldnt resist) the book explains why he never vanished. It wasn't because he was a Maiar, it was because he was his own master, the ring could make no impression upon him, it could not control him even a little by pushing him into the spirt world and making him "invisible". He had eveything he wanted, and at the same time he had no desire to exert his will over others. Maybe I've taken certain people up wrong, that any individual, Noldorian elf, Maiar, that exists on both planes (Physical/Spirt) at the same time cannot become invisible? Where did that idea come from? To my mind such a state of existence would make it easier to become "invisible" as they are already halfway there. I was wondering if anyone knew the answer to this one, what colour is the main wall of Minas Tirith? Personally I think it's black like Orthanc, but any paintings I see all have white walls. Strange. See you later :) |
