The Eye of Sauron
Gorlim the Unhappy

Hello Tolkien Fans!
Reading Arina's article titled Saurons Invisibility brought to mind something I had been rolling around in my mind after seeing the movie. In the movie Sauron is portrayed as a giant eye. In the beggining of the movie Galadriel states something to the order that after Sauron was killed by Isildur his spirit reformed in the shape of a giant eye. I have always assumed (and I believe that the book supports this assumption) that Sauron reformed in his former shape (except that errant finger!). Of course, the eye, or eyes of Sauron whould still be terrible to behold. Sauron actually took the lidless eye as his symbol long before he was felled by the Last Alliance. So, what are everyone elses thoughts on the matter? Was Sauron an Eye (capitalize that eye!) or a human-shaped maia with nasty contacts? If Sauron wasnt an Eye then why did Jackson portray him as one? Does anyone know more about this subject? Anyway Arina, if I am correct then this should answer some your questions.
