August 1, 2002 Gollum Saw Frodo? To Jeff C. Just to clear up a point that Jeff C. brought up. Gollum did not see Frodo while bearing the ring, or at least this is not implied when Frodo puts it on in Mt. Doom. Gollum sees Frodo from where he is spying on the hobbits, and then when Frodo puts it on Gollum rushes as fast as he can to the spot where he last saw him. The book states: "To and fro he swayed, now so near the brink that almost he tumbled in, now dragging back, falling to the ground, rising, and falling again." Gollum is searching for something that is not there. If he could see Frodo he would not have gone through his dancing ordeal. Refer to the chapter MOUNT DOOM in ROTK. Thanks for your time. |
