A Few Things
Annatar

Kalimac, your post on invisibility summed it all up nicely, I couldn't agree more. Brett C, I think great minds do think alike. It's a burden we who are so blessed have to carry. Balrogs wings, this will never go away (too much fun) I still think they have them because, well, they would look good and the book does hint at them very strongly. What the book does not say is that they could fly. Just because a Balrog has wings does not mean it can fly, they would never be the most aerodynamic beings ever designed/created. When I think about wings and Balrogs, I think about chickens, they have wings but cannot fly for peanuts. Well ok I do think Balrogs could glide a little, from a very small drop but fly? Nope. Good compromise??? I think so. Some people seem to think a Balrogs weapons are an extension of themselves, I'd have to disagree. During the fall of Gondolin, Elves (people of The Hammer of Wrath) took whips from some of the Balrogs and used them against them. This would tend to say that these were weapons in their own right and not a manifestation of a Balrogs power. Danny, is it wisdom to base a plan on luck? I don't think so. Is it wisdom to conceive a plan which fails? I don't think so. Saruman showed more wisdom on the part of the west than Gandalf. His plan to ally himself with Mordor and then in time direct it's efforts into more "wholesome" activities showed alot more promise than Gandalf's wishy washy plan. What had the west to fear from Sauron? There are excesses in all war, but after which comes rebuilding, peace, harmony and brotherhood (sisterhood too). It's all the Elves fault. They feared what humans under the reluctant leadership of a Maiar could accomplish. It is Elves and their overlords that holdback the gift of life everlasting to humans, holding them subject to death and disease. Just say NO to Elvish propanganda. (Oh for the good old days after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad. Melian and I had an affair then. *sigh. Shush! Don't tell Thingol. Let's just say Luthien has her father's eyes, very fiery). See you all later ;) Sorry if this was submitted multiple times I've had trouble with my connection.
