LotR and Christianity
Aragorn
Well, I think it's a pretty interesting analogy the one Legolas does comparing Elves to Angels and Orcs to Demons. It certainly could work that way, depsite the differences. But there's one greater subject that incarnates a fallen angel: The Balrog. Even Saruman himself.
Who could be Jesus? Well, Aragorn is THE KING, and I always wondered if Viggo's look in the movie had been a deliberate attempt to make him look like Jesus (deep look, long hair, moustache and beard). In the not-yet released extended version of the movie, there'll be a scene in which Aragorn prays at his mother's grave in Rivendell. I saw a pic of this scene and it remembered me a lot of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane (the moment in which he makes the choice to go on with his mission. Exactly, the same thing that Aragorn does in Rivendell. Remember that part of the book in which Elrond is said to know what that deep moment really meant for Aragorn?). Aragorn is a figure that represntes the acceptance of your own destiny (but certainly Frodo represents this as well). Even though, it is surely Aragorn's character the one that fits better into the messianic figure that brings hope to the world of men. But... it can also be said of Frodo that by being the humblest and smallest, he became the greatest, which is a primary christian principle. Complex subject, uh?? :)
Gandalf, in the other hand, is another character that has a strong resemblance to Jesus: he dies and comes back to life completely glorified.
Anyway, what do you think, people?
