August 7, 2002 Destined? Elbereth you said that Frodo as Bilbo's heir was destined to destroy the Ring. To be destined implys by default that the world is run by fate and as we all know fate does not allow for free will (we are all following a predetermined script). if such is the case all the good AND all the evil must be laid at the feet of the one who wrote the script, i.e. God - Eru. What ami getting at?! Frodo was not destined to destroy it because there is not fate. As for Gandalf not caring, maybe I got your post mixed with someone elses, who ever it was said that (not verbatim here but) Gandalf came up with a plan knowing full well Frodo could not withstand the power of the ring but placing his "hope" in a higher power to deliver. Such wishfull thinking is foolish in the extreme. As for putting his head on the block with the rest of them and taking the risks for the people of middle-earth, it was just a case of, as The Mouth of Sauron would say "sticking his nose out too far". Let no one say I am Sauron (he he he!) but if I was and I controlled all the ports etc I would only be too happy to get rid of the Elvish influence. Let them go into the west, good ridance! You do know Elbereth used to flirt with Sauron back in the good ol' days. ;) She didn't like his secret girlfriend Melian though. See you all later :) Ash Nazg... |
