August 11, 2002 The DVD Hello. I just got the DVD and let me tell you it was the best DVD purchase I have ever made. Not only was this perhaps one of the most anticipated releases of all time, but what they included was more than worth the price. I bought it at midnight and then spent the next 4 hours watching the movie and some of the additional material. I loved the way that they included two major documentaries on the making of the movie, all of the trailers, and best of all a preview of the Two Towers. So if you can, go out and buy this. You will not be disappointed. Now on to other things. One of the opportunities I had by watching the DVD is to sit through and see what was changed from the books and why. On this website, I have read many complaints of the way that Peter Jackson changed some of the details in the books. But when watching the movie from the perspective that you are watching a movie, it all makes sense. For instance the introduction of Merry and Pippen. We all know that they were part of a conspiracy to benefit Frodo in the book, but in the movie they seem to run into Frodo and Sam by accident. I can see why Peter did this. He has only a limited amount of time for the length of the movie, and this was the most time efficient way that he could introduce them without the lengthy trip to Crickhollow and the explainations of a conspiracy. I will share my views of more of his changes later. |
