Disappointing VHS
Dave M.
OK, the movie is great - even on VHS. I decided to wait till November for the special edition dvd.
The problems are a) no widescreen vhs option. b)no previews of TT or the sp. edition - these are only 'adverts' when all is said & done.
As far as I'm concerned New line is pushing it with this - they've clearly decided that they are only interested in the DVD market, and want us to buy BOTH versions on DVD. They've obviously put out a VHS because they know the majority of folks only have VHS and want to cash in on the market as far as possible.
New Line can say what they want, there's NO excuse for the two versions - the theatre version will be redundant in November, and there's no excuse for the 'cheapness' of their approach to the vhs release.
There comes a point when you cross the line between making a profit, which is valid, and just trying to screw as much money as possible out of people. Lord of the Rings is not another Star Wars or Matrix, etc. It is a work which has deeply affected millions. New Line's approach is starting to leave a nasty taste in the mouth.
