Return of the Kingsfoil??

I am waiting to purchase the Extended DVD, however I still have a question about what I remember from the theatre. Aragorn sends a hobbit (if memory serves, it was Sam??) searching for kingsfoil to help heal Frodo....

In the book, kingsfoil isn't mentioned until "The Houses of Healing" in ROTK. Could this mean we will lose Ioreth and "...Life to the dying, In the king's hand lying!" Does Aragorn even heal Faramir, and Eowyn? I don't understand bringing up kingsfoil in FOTR unless it isn't going to be used in ROTK. Hope I'm wrong. :c)-~
