Holding the Ring doesn't make the Holder Invisible, this is why the One Ring can not default Invisibility.

With Isildur and the knowledge he has of the One Ring, he would need to wear it to confer Invisibility. If he was also willing, the effect of Invisibility would occur.

Have you noticed also that in the movie, only the Elves wear thier Rings? It interesting to see if they had the others wearing their ones :)
