LotR Books Outsell Harry Potter
Staff Reporter

The top-selling movie book at the start of 2002 was the Oscar hopeful The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings boxed set, which actually outsold the brand-new, hotly anticipated paperback boxed set Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone/Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets/Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The Ring's power compelled readers to buy related titles: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Visual Companion, The Lord of the Rings collector's edition, the Harvard Lampoon's classic Bored of the Rings (which was barely outselling Barry Trotter and the Unauthorized Parody), and everything in the massive, movie-intensive Lord of the Rings Store.
