Baggins and Potter Go Head to Head at Box Office

LONDON: Harry Potter is to lock horns with Frodo Baggins in the Battle of the Hollywood Blockbusters Part II - and this time it could be a close run contest at the box office.

Teenage wizard Harry Potter's film debut was eagerly awaited last year by millions of children and when he took to the silver screen, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone earned an astonishing $US965 million. Only Titanic has ever done better.

Devoted fans of J R R Tolkien's Lord of the Rings flocked to the first film in the trilogy but the epic tale of Frodo Baggins and his intrepid Hobbit friends still trailed in $US105 million behind Potter.

Now they are ready to do battle again with pre-Christmas releases.
