TolkienMovies.com Two Towers Blemishes * Aragorn's scream. I am referring, ofcourse, to his outpouring of emotion when the three hunters find the smouldering Uruk-Hai, and presume Merry and Pippin to be dead. This scene wasn't shot properly and raised a few laughs. Maybe if Gimli and Legolas had showed more of emotion, then Aragorn's scream would not have sounded out of place and would not have bordered on the cheese-line. * The 'laughing at near death' orc - now this was CHEESEARAMA. I am speaking about the dying orc that smirks when Legolas and Gimli are searching for Aragorn, right after the Warg attack, after the aformentioned's tumble of the cliff. At Gimli's interogation the laughing orc dies, revealing Aragorn is 'dead'. PURLEASE! Not only has this routine been played to death already in other movies, but it also sits uncomfortably within the theme of the story, and also makes one ask - are the orcs on first name terms with the Dunedain (sp)? * The whole 'Aragorn is dead' sideplot. Yes, yes I know it is supposed to help build on the whole Aragorn/Eowyn/Arwen fiasco, but could Peter Jackson have not used a more appropriate approach to enlighten the Ignorant, without resorting to 'killing off' Aragorn, and pi**ing off A LOT OF REAL FANS in the process? There is nothing more to be said on this than what already has been stated by others ... apart from PURLEASE! * Treebeard and the ents. See my review in the news section. And while your'e at it ... * ... check out 'Theoden' too. Nuff said. * Was it ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to have one of the guards restraining Eomer at the beginning of the film to WALLOP HIM IN THE STOMACH? He is related to the King afterall. Putting aside the fact that the Rohan soldiers love Eomer, was it not in itself a rather OVER BOLD move by the guard in question? Wasn't Tolkien's approach more subtle (and more REALISTIC)? One could argue that it was one of Grima's personal henchmen that punched Eomer, but if it was, it wasn't made clear. In fact, the liberties PJ has taken in showing just how much power Wormtongue has gained was exage , and poorly executed (in my oh so humble opinion). * I may be incorrect on the following blemish, and if I am then please correct me. It was suggested in the movie that should Arwen marry Aragorn, then after the King has passed away she will live out her long years in solitude before she, too, dies. As I have always belived it - isn't Arwen supposed to die AT THE SAME TIME Aragorn does? Like I said I could be misinformed, but if I am correct - this error is PLAIN TRAGIC ... So there we are. And there I'll leave you. I am sorry for the length of this, and for those few that have tolerated me I applaud you. Other than the above, and other similar gripes, I thought the overall movie was not bad at all. I honestly thought it wasn't! |
