TolkienMovies.com Two Towers Bravo! * The portayal of the Orcs/Uruk-Hai. Aside from a few moments of cheese (see previous article), I think PJ has done a marvelous job of bringing these creatures to life. A point has been made somewhere already, with which I totally agree, in that Jackson was good enough to show much diversity in the look of these beings, as readers have their own personal image of what an Orc should look like. We will never know exactly how they were supposed to look by the Author, as narrative leaves a lot to the imagination, but I think Peter captured the spirit of Tolkien in his portrayal. And the same applies to the other wonderful beasts and monsters of Middle Earth, including Trolls, Wargs, Ents and Wraiths. * Gollum. Golllllllllluuuuuuuummmmm ... Precioussssssss ..... * Isengard. PJ must have done something amazingly right in his depiction of the whole story of Saruman and Isengard because one could not help from being overjoyed, moved and utterly relieved when the Ents destroyed it all. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what was so great about this (maybe one of the other readers could lend a suggestion), but it was excellently executed. Oh, and thank you PJ for not killing of Saruman in the second film!! * Again, this is sort off going back to my first point, but I think the whole cast is to be applauded for their portrayal of their characters. Elrond and Galadriel have a few obvious weaknesses, but on the whole I think PJ has done well on his choice of casting. I am speaking especially about moving performances from Mckellen, Mortinsen (sp) and Wood. * The tension building up to the battle of Helm's Deep was a very emotionally high point in the movie, and is rarely seen in films nowadays. You could really feel for the characters and their plight, and really feared for them as the abominable army drew nearer. Excellent movie making. * The Special Effects. Nuff said. * Putting the Balrog battle right at the start of the film. How cool is that! I would be very impressed indeed if anyone could have come up with a better opening scene. And that is that. Peace out and Increase the Peace. |
