The Tolkien Archives Shut Down?
Matthew

I bring you sad news this day. The Tolkien Archives, a web site that I co-founded several years ago with my friend Jeremiah Lewis, and a site that he now runs (or did run) by himself, has been shut down by the Tolkien Estate. The details can be found on the home page of the site, but apparently, they were not pleased with the maps (read that, maps???) of Middle Earth that were posted.

It's a sad day when lawyers begin deciding what can or cannot be shown on a not-for-profit (often costing Jeremiah money out of his own pocket to keep it up) web site that is simply trying to be a Grey Havens of sorts for fans of the books we all know and love. If you have time, please e-mail Jeremiah and indicate your support for him and his site. The e-mail address of the lawyer from the Tolkien Estate is also posted at the Archives, so you can contact him as well if you'd like to (be poilte, he is another human being, after all).

The Tolkien Archives (or what's left of it) can be visited at...
