Two Towers DVD Breaks Pre-release Record

LONDON: The second Lord Of The Rings movie, The Two Towers, has notched up the highest ever pre-release sale for a film with Internet retailer www.amazon.co.uk, the company said.

The company has received 50,000 orders for the film on DVD and video - 10,000 more than previous record holder Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets.

The Two Towers - the fifth-highest grossing movie ever - with stg570 million ($NZ1.56 billion) at the box office - is out next Tuesday.

Amazon's media product director, Greg Hart, said: "Many of our DVD customers are huge Tolkien fans and with a raft of special features on offer and a behind-the-scenes preview of the The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King - the final instalment in the Tolkien trilogy, this DVD release is a must-have for all Middle Earth fans out there."
