Rampant Mouse Introduces New Medieval Weaponry
Press Release

Brighton, MI---September 27, 2003--Rampant Mouse, a web-based importer and distributor which started operations in July of 2002, offers for the first time in North America latex weaponry mass-produced through a new injected molded foam process. These highly realistic yet extremely safe medieval-style weapons are perfect for fantasy conventions, live-action role playing games, sci-fi and gaming conventions, renaissance festivals, acting troops, halloween costumes, and as children toys. The selection includes swords, daggers, axes, maces, katanas, hammers, morning stars, and shields.

Injection molding is a process that eliminates air inside the product, provides a more consistent product, and results in better quality product. Injection molding also can utilize more controlled processes that can make use of softer, more complex foams that are better for the latex weapon industry and the end user.

The future of injection molded foam latex weaponry is now becoming an engineered science. The tip of carbon fiber and fiberglass cores are kevlar tipped to reduce the risk of core protrusion, the foams are dual and triple layered to provide a more forgiving initial strike, followed by a responsive rebound in the material after the strike. This combined foam also is more consistent in thickness, more precise in shape and dimension, and the looks are more comparable to steel weaponry.

Rampant Mouse weapons are constructed with a durable combination of fiberglass (or carbon-fibre cores), closed-cell foam, foam rubber and latex. The cores range from 4-8mm in width. As weapon length increases, so does the width of the core used to make it, thus increasing the durability of the weapon. 42” long weapons are crafted using a stronger carbon-fibre core.

The striking edge is padded with a combination of closed-cell foam and foam rubber, to provide the maximum give on impact while also providing weapon durability. The distance between the outer striking edge and the core is a minimum of 5/8 inch, but can range upwards of 1 ½ inches with thicker bladed weapons, and is much higher for axes or maces. The flat edge provides about a half-inch of padding, but the surface area is much thicker, thus slowing the speed and widely distributing the force of any blow.

Rampant Mouse is a privately owned corporation established in Michigan in 2002.
