I think all of you should stop being so critical of this film. YES, some parts of the book were indeed glossed over or left out completely. But taken as a whole I think the film was a rather fabulous adaptation (NOT variation) of the
book. I think as a earlier poster stated, that you pessimistic critics went to be disappointed, and disappointment is what you got. In any case, I'm sure the AUTHOR himself would have been rather pleased the product.
