January 6, 2003 Earendil's Voyages Colin, I'm also writing without the benefit of the books, but I believe the last chapter of the Silmarillion proper states that Earendil returns every day to Valinor, and that his wife {Ingwe?] takes the form of a seabird and flies up to meet him as he returns from his voyages in the outer dark. I don't remember any reference to watching over Morgoth, though that could be true. His fate was never to return to mortal lands, meaning Middle Earth [during the War of Wrath he never actually touched down on Middle Earth's soil, fighting Ancalagon and the Dragon host in aerial combat]. |
