RC Beliefs
Posted by chris on 10-03-03
Foxy- In answer to your questions... First, yes, we do pray to Mary but probably not in the way you think. We don't pray to Mary the way we pray to God.

Mary and RC

Jarrickon Half-elven- The Catholic church was the defender of the Bible until the Reformation when all Christian took the Catholic Bible and modified it.

Where'd you get the idea that Bombadil and Goldberry are Maiar? Tolkien never stated that, nor did he ever say just exactly who Bombadil was. In "Letters" he described him as an intentional enigma.

How Much Sunlight to Turn a Troll to Stone?
Posted by Niphredil on 10-03-03
The other day some friends and I were talking trolls over coffee (as you do) when it suddenly occurred to me that the cave troll in the FotR film must have been exposed to sunlight during the fight in the Chamber of Mazarbul.

Elves and Birth
Posted by Strider on 10-03-03
First of all, i have to agree with Tinowien that we need to stop talking about religion. its a touchy subject and, like Tinowien, i feel we need to talk more about Tolkien.

RotK Trailer Part 2
Posted by Frodo_Lives on 10-03-03
I was watching the ROTK trailer and I saw something that was weird. I saw Frodo with cobwebs on him in some grass and Galadriel was right infront of him.

RotK Trailer Ramblings
Posted by Frodo_Lives on 10-03-03
When I last put in a post about the ROTK I had just watched it and was not fully sain. Thats why all of my thoughts were reambled so I will state was I thought about it clear as I can.

Hidden Gollum in FotR Poster
Posted by Olliephaunt on 10-03-03
Although this has probably been pointed out before, I have to make this known anyway. I recently noticed that there is a small and subtle shape resembling Gollum in the FOTR promotional poster...

Galadriel, Frodo, Trolls, Etc.
Posted by Mr. Underhill on 10-04-03
In response to Frodo_Lives, who seems just as hyped up as I am about ROTK (74 days, 12 hours 30 minutes... sorry :) I think that the scene with Galadriel and Frodo is going to be a vision sequence.

Posted by Pip on 10-04-03
First of all Niphredil, I noticed that thing with the cave troll as well. If you go to www.movie-mistakes.com it is actually listed as one of the many mistakes in the film.

RotK Trailer: Galadriel Scene and Shelob's Size
Posted by Bob Praz on 10-04-03
About the Galadriel scene in the ROTK trailer it looks like Galadriel will appear to Frodo in a sort of dream sequence (like Arwen appeared to Aragorn in TTT), either at the moment...

Ho, Boy, Do I Have a Lot to Respond To!
Posted by Jarrickon Half-elven on 10-04-03
First, foremost, and altogether before anything else, I must hearken to Lilly's lamentation of a while ago and say this: Please, people, spell my name correctly!!

Elven Birth, That Trailer...
Posted by Tinowien on 10-04-03
Strider, I don't believe Elves are born as adults, because that would bring up some physical issues (Elf women would need some serious hips, for example.) Elves don't age, as Tolkien says, but they mature, growing wiser and fairer.

Galadriel Speculation
Posted by Niphredil on 10-04-03
Frodo_Lives, I can’t tell you for sure what the scene with Frodo and Galadriel is about, but I can hazard a guess, and it is always fun to speculate.

Elvish Life History
Posted by Niphredil on 10-04-03
Strider, Elves have kids the same way that ‘Men’ do (obviously I mean the race of Men, we women actually do all the hard work). Elvish kids look like mortal kids for the first few years of their lives but then they appear to age more slowly.

Figwhat?
Posted by Lilly on 10-04-03
Now that I've finally been given the chance to see the ROTK trailer frame-by-frame, I think it's more wonderful than before.

Galdriel and Trolls [and Theoden]
Posted by Brett C. on 10-07-03
Frodo Lives , you are right in that the scene with Galadriel is definitley not in the encounter with Shelob. I have only my own deductions for why it is in the movie, but here they are.

Chatties
Posted by Lilly on 10-07-03
So...there's a chat room on this site. I don't usually frequent chats, because...i don't like them very much. This forum is wonderful, despite its requirement to register.

Tell Me I'm Wrong...
Posted by Servant of Eru on 10-07-03
Please tell me I am mistaken. In the trailer, we have the Rohirrim massed on the Pellenor Fields, making ready to charge. But, what? say it isn't so! Elessar, in full battle gear, rides at their head, rather than Theoden.

Olog-hai (Breed of Trolls) and (Sigh) Figwit
Posted by Bob Praz on 10-07-03
Figwit, our dear, famous Figwit, has become a cult celebrity because of his single-second appearance as an elf in the Council of Elrond in FOTR.

Trolls at the Black Gate
Posted by Jarrickon Half-elven on 10-07-03
Near the end of the Third Age Sauron bred a race of super-trolls, the Olog-hai, much akin to Saruman's Uruk-hai.

Thanks and Barad-dur
Posted by Strider on 10-07-03
Thank you Tinowien for your input, and thank you Niphredil for your tip. I never thought of looking there. Your explanations have helped me in this subject.

Figwit Who? Galadriel Scene, Poll
Posted by Frodo_Lives on 10-07-03
Lily, I thought the same thing when I heard that name. He is not mentioned in the book. But in the movie he was at the Councel of Elrond.

Figwit and Jarrickon
Posted by Pip on 10-07-03
Hey Lil, I think you must be visiting another popular site for LOTR. Council of Elrond if I am not greatly mistaken. If you are reading things on CoE, you will find lots of people talking about Figgy.

More Trolls
Posted by Niphredil on 10-09-03
Mr Underhill, there are in fact trolls that can endure sunlight. They are Olog-hai, a new-improved breed of troll, created by Sauron, “that can endure the sun so long as the will of Sauron held sway over them” (Appendix F RotK).

Figwit
Posted by Niphredil on 10-09-03
Lilly, Figwit stands for "Frodo Is Grea...Who Is THAT?!" ‘Figwit’ is one of the elves attending the Council of Elrond that is, according to his adoring fans, stunningly attractive.

Figwit
Posted by Tinowien on 10-09-03
Ah, Lilly, I thought no one would ever ask. Some weird person was watching the Council scene in FOTR and noted a certain good-looking, dark haired, silent elf with 3 seconds of screen time.

The Valar and the Maiar
Posted by Rune of Mirkwood on 10-09-03
If anyone wishes to quetion Tolkien and his writings regarding The Valar and The Maiar - which one of my forum postings was questioned...

RotK Trailer
Posted by Samwise on 10-09-03
Ive been gone this week camping, but when I got back I saw the trailer and it was simply amazing.

Aragorn at the Pelennor, Olog-hai, Pip
Posted by Jarrickon Half-elven on 10-09-03
Aragorn does not lead the Rohirrim at the charge on the Pelennor fields. That bit of trailer is merely spliced between the Morannon and the Pelennor, with Elessar saying his incredibly well-written speech.

A Few Different Things
Posted by -shieldmaiden- on 10-09-03
Strider, the website you gave for names doesn't have what your name really is. It is just a name generator that gives names depending on the letters in your name, but not an acurate place to get names.

Strider, Aragorn's Speech, The Silver Screen
Posted by Frodo_Lives on 10-09-03
I was reading the chapter "Many Meeting" and I noticed something about Strider. He seemed I guess you could say, "happier", then he appears in the movies. He smiled more in the books!

Definitely Not An Elf
Posted by Niphredil on 10-10-03
Frodo_Lives, in response to your poll about what Tolkien race I would wish to be a part of, I would have to say, the Race of (Wo)Men. I would definitely not want to be an Elf.

Hobbit Extra
Posted by Strider on 10-10-03
Ever since i came across the FOTR secial extended edition, i have watched constantly for little tid-bits of information wich might give us a hint of whats to come. However, there is one thing I can not figure out.

Re: Aragorn Or Theoden Leading the Charge?
Posted by Ar-Pharazon on 10-10-03
From looking closely at the trailer, I do not think it is Aragorn leading the charge of the Rohirrim on the Pelenor. When we hear Aragorn begin his speech, "I see the same fear....," there is a white horse riding in front of the Rohirrim.

About Theoden
Posted by a hobbit on 10-10-03
Well, I have been silent for long enough. I have been a frequent visitor and I read most of the posts on this forum. I have watched the trailer about 4 or 5 times now and at first I thought that Theoden's lines were given to Elessar as well.

Unhappy With Newline
Posted by Danny on 10-10-03
This post is for all those who waited in line for the LOTR marathon tickets but were turned away due to NewLine's policy.

Thoughts on Frodo Film vs Book
Posted by Danny on 10-10-03
Just a few thoughts that have been on my mind a bit more lately. I love the movies and am absolutely ecstatic to have them coming to us in film, but I do have a fear.

Aragorn/Theoden in Trailer, and Kiran Shah on Fire
Posted by Bob Praz on 10-10-03
First off, it will have been said already by now, but Aragorn DOES NOT lead the charge of the Rohirrim at the Pelennor Fields; it is Theoden at their head upon Snowmane.

Re: Hobbit Extra
Posted by Lilly on 10-10-03
They're not referring to a real scene when they ask Kiran (is that how you spelled it? I've not a clue...) if he would mind being set on fire.

How to Get 'Debate Members' Names Spelled Right
Posted by Galadriel on 10-12-03
So many of us have been in anguish over spelling other members names correctly (including me!). For example... "Niphredil (I think I spelled you name right, sorry if I didn't!)" I recently figured out how to prevent a misspelling from occuring.

The Great Race
Posted by Pip on 10-12-03
Pip is having a quandry. Everyone is saying what race they would like to be, and up till now, Pip has been happy to be a hobbit. But now... Pip is having second thoughts...

The Racial Question (and to Danny)
Posted by Mr. Underhill on 10-13-03
Danny, I really feel your pain. New Line has given us a great movie, but they really squeeze the money out of the loyal fans.

Not Fair!
Posted by Wilwarin on 10-14-03
Haha, you think you guys got it bad? Try living in Alaska! They aren't playing any of the extended editions up here and if I wanted to see the marathon...

If I Were in Middle-earth, What Would I Be?
Posted by Lilly on 10-14-03
A Hobbit. Hands down.

Elf, Definitely Elf
Posted by Imlar on 10-16-03
Well, Imlar is my name, and in the book I'm writing, he's an elf. So yup, for races, I want to be an elf. I've had slightly pointed ears since I was a baby (I have pictures to prove it)...

Re: Not Fair, and My Choice for Race
Posted by Danny on 10-16-03
Your quandry in Alaska is another example of how I am not pleased with New Line in the way they are making the movies available to their fans. If they were all about making the most money possible, they would make the marathon available to every fan...

What Would I Be?
Posted by Annatar on 10-16-03
Tough question. Let me see... Maia, servant of Aule. Yes! That'll do nicely. Mind you Melkor does have some good arguements, I could follow him if...

Do I Even Need to Answer This?
Posted by Jarrickon Half-elven on 10-17-03
What race would I be? I am Jarrickon Falconn, the Half-elven, son of Naraloss. I think that pretty much sums it up.

The Witch-king of RotK
Posted by Bob Praz on 10-17-03
I was wondering how many of you have seen the new picture of the Witch-King that was posted on the official site (as well as theonering.net) lately.
